Theme Tune
Season 1
The first 17 episodes of season 1 feature a spooky harpsichord and strings styled theme tune, credited in the episode descriptions to Emily Rocheleau.
In episodes 18 and 19, after Abby joined as a player, the opening music changed to solo piano with a moody intro leading into a jaunty main theme, credited in the episode descriptions to Abigail Cross (sometimes credited as "Ab-Bowie Cross"). The jaunty piano theme was used as the outro music too. In episode 20 the opening music featured the same moody piano into, but the jaunty piano was replaced by a jaunty accordion/concertina playing in the style of an eastern European folk tune. The jaunty piano was kept as the outro music, and it stayed that way for the next 140-odd episodes, until the end of season 1.
Speaking about her theme especially for this wiki, Abby kindly provided the following, via the PFD community discord:
"When I first learned the title of the podcast was Pork Fried Dice, my brain immediately turned to that most juvenile and delightful of two-finger piano ditties, "Chopsticks". But the spirit of the tune seemed too spritely for Ravenloft, so I decided to slow it down several hundred notches and overlay a minor mode, with a nod to, perhaps, a cheap knock-off version of a Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody?... Tongue was firmly placed in cheek, as usual. I had even more fun doing a version of it for accordion!"
Season 2
The theme tune for season 2 is an instrumental version of Abby's original song Under the Shelter of Steed Corral, which featured in episode 171: So You Guys Are Gonna Be The Balloons Now? when the cast attempted to sing it together over video chat. The results were.... mixed.
The origin of the song was something that Greg said in the season 1 episode 109: But Are the Bees Hot? The party were on their way to the Amber Temple, navigating a path which clung to the mountainside. When Eric was telling the group they could walk single-file, Abby was worried about how Steed would traverse this dangerous road. She then realised that Raphina and Lank could happily walk underneath him. "Protect you from falling rocks." says Alex. "A convenient shelter." agrees Abby. Greg suggests "We could take turns carrying each other and each one, while being carried, could take a short rest. Under the shelter of Steed Corral." Abby suggested this would be a great refrain to a folk song. I'm not writing it right now." KT says she has to do it and Eric says that can be her homework for next week.
The lyrics to the song are:
Because I am little I go where I please
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
Drinking my twig tea and eating peace cheese
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
It might rain down boulders, it might rain down rain
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
But nary a pebble shall strike my brain
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
If Lank fits the contours of Batthwack’s leg
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
I'll stay here alone with my nest of eggs
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
Victor continues to whine and to bitch
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
I hope that he never becomes a lich
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
We have to hike single file up this hill
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
The least pleased of any of course is Will
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
We travel this pass round the mountain pass
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
And all Will can see is this horse’s ass!
Under the shelter of Steed Corral
